Umthombo Wolwazi Library:
A Fountain of Knowledge
“Work matters, but curiosity matters more.
Nobody works hard at learning more than a curious kid.” – Doc Searls

Library Updates

BOOKS! Last year the library was transformed from an empty space to a bright, beautiful place for the learners to read or do homework during their short and long break. Students flood the doors at any moment they can and are quiet and respectful of the space. Now, the only issue is.. we need more books! Currently, the library holds over 3,500 books, all of which have been donated by organizations both in South Africa and the United States. During 2011 school year since the opening of the library in August, over 1,500 books were checked out. We anticipate even more this year and are eager to find more fun reads for the learners.

LIBRARY PREFECTS: Leaders at Walmer High

Picture
Library prefects, leaders from grades 10 and 11, are knowledgeable of all Umthombo Wolwazi Library's procedures and, as a team, take charge of the library during both the morning and afternoon breaks in the school day.  They take shifts running the circulation desk, and their duties include checking books in and out, collecting late fees, and keeping our shelves tidy and in order.  These prefects are the backbone to the library and are true leaders at Walmer High.
